Left 4 Dead Boss: The Trigger

Description

What happens if an infected wants to be human again? What if he has enough humanity to remember things before he turned? What if he is shunned, and pushed aside like all the other hordes of mindless freaks out there? What if he wants to be human so much, he’s willing to prove how human he still is? Yet, there is nothing human about The Trigger. He simply doesn’t want to be the same as all the other infected. He wants to be human again so badly, that he has done what no zombie has been able to do up until now...

The Trigger is an interesting boss infected both mentally and physically. He is, for example, the only infected still capable of human speech. His rambling about revenge, sadness, hatred and “how I’ll show those humans what I can do,” can be heard ages before he is seen. He also follows survivors across each levels of the campaign, so if he survives one chapter, he re-spawns in the next at the same power level that he ended the last chapter.

He is also the only infected who can wield a gun, save the Riot and the Boogeyman. However, the Riot uses his gun in a rudimentary manner, whereas the Trigger makes direct use of them. He is so comfortable with wielding weaponry, that he even bonds to the guns through a process that his little understood by science. He seems to be able to literally absorb on contact, any weapon he finds, and not only fire it from where it is connected, but it adds to his mass. He starts with a mere 100 health, and is easy pickings for a survivor who can catch him off guard. But if he finds a weapon lying around on the floor, from a dead survivor or even from weapons tables, he sucks them up like a vacuum cleaner and grows in strength.

Once he has absorbed a pistol, he means business, and he starts becoming a legitimate threat. He gains 50 health and can attack with the pistol from a distance in the same way as the survivors. he can later absorb a second pistol, and duel weild with the previous one, just like the survivors (this dosen't add any health to him, but is required if he is to reach his penultimate form.) But if he is allowed to suck up any primary weapons, then the party starts, as he can use these as well. With every gun he absorbs, he gets bigger and bigger, gaining 200 health per weapon, until he is more gun the infected. He also needs to absorb ammo to feed his guns, which works in the same way as the survivors, albeit a little more visceral (he eats the ammo.)

Once he has absorbed one of every gun in the game (excluding the minigun,) he takes on a new form. His penultimate form is a terrifying mesh of gun and living being, as big as a boomer and ten times as powerful, but luckily just as slow. If possible, kill him before he gets anywhere near this stage, or you will regret it.

He no longer needs to make ammo, as it actually grows inside him. Now he is ready to take the fight to the survivors, and when he does, he can be as dangerous as a tank. His health takes a leap up to 4000, and he begins his rampage, mowing down survivors with terrifying zeal. He can change his attacks depending on the situation. If a survivor is at a distance, he can snipe them with the hunting rifle. If they take him at close quarters, he unleashes his shotguns upon them, knocking them back. Mid range combat consists of a barrage of assault rifle and Uzi. If he is hit directly with a pipe bomb, he absorbs it and can fire it back (if he dosen't do it fast enough, it explodes inside him, doing high damage.)

Once in his penultimate form, if he finds a mounted gun, then he can make life even harder for the survivors. He can attach himself to the minigun, and use it to mow down unsuspecting survivors, becoming the ultimate gunning monster. However he cannot turn beyond the sight of the minigun, and has to de-attach himself to move again.

His speed depends on how many guns he has. With every gun he absorbs he gets slower to balance his increase in power. He also makes a clattering noise as he walks if he reaches his penultimate form. He also has a basic melee attack until this stage, which becomes replaced with an area attack, in which he shoots all his guns constantly and simultaneously in all directions. This attack can be prolonged, and is useless against survivors at long range, but is lethal at very close quarters (however if he does it for too long, he overheats and has to rest for a while before he can attack again.)

The trigger has no theme or audio cue except his ramblings, until he reaches his penultimate form, in which he would be given a theme that sounds something like this: [link]

Bare in mind, that there will only ever be one trigger per game, that folows the survivors through the game, attacking when it reaches it's penultimate form unless killed before then.

Verses Controls:
Left Click: Shoot whatever gun you have selected
Right Click: Melee or Area Burst (only in penultimate form)
Mouse Wheel: Change between available guns

Max Triggers In-Game: 1

Relevant Achievements:

Survivor:
Beat the boss: Defeat each of the three final boss infected

Safeties on: Kill a Trigger before he reaches his penultimate form and before the finale

Infected:
Triggernometry: Reach the penultimate form as a Trigger

Outgunned: For every gun in the game, kill a survivor wielding that gun, with that gun, as a Trigger

Bulletbeast: Kill all four survivors as a Trigger

NOTE: If you reach the Finale before The Trigger reaches his penultimate form, he is forced into battle, but because all of the weapons he needs are in the finale level, it shouldn't be too hard for him to gain the right level of power. Also, in the picture I drew, he shouldn't have three pistols, so sorry about that.

I think it would be an interesting twist for the survivors to be able to shoot the guns off his body, or break them. It wouldn't incur in a loss of the form or anything, just him losing health and the use of the weapon.
