Description

Indestructible. Invulnerable. Invincible. These words best describe this very rare strain of Tank. They are created when the genes of a Stalker and a Tank get mixed up, and a person will be mutated into a hybrid of them both. You thought that the Tank was tough, or that the Stalker was threatening? You haven’t seen anything yet.

The Shield is almost completely and utterly invulnerable. Bullets fired from conventional guns simply bounce off his rock hard skin. Even the gaps between his armour plates has the physical properties of an inorganic substance as hard as woven Kevlar, yet just as flexible. It is also completely fire proof and shatter resistant. Even the shotgun at point blank range does as much damage to this monster as firing a paintball gun does to a brick wall.

However there is a downside to all that armour. While he cannot be harmed by small explosives, fire or shots from conventional weapons, The Shield is slow. He moves as fast as The Tank does when he is crouching, and in fact moves in a similar way. However, he knows this, and will usually place himself in tight corridors or doorways where he can block the survivors’ progress like a brick wall. Unlike his more common cousin, The Shield is also very docile, and not only remains quiet unless aggravated, but also never directly attacks the survivors first, unless they stand right next to or in front of him. Even if he can see them, he makes no immediate attempt to chase them. However, if a survivor is brave enough to run up and punch him, and then not get countered by The Sheild’s massive blows (which are exactly as powerful as an ordinary tank’s punch,) then he becomes aggravated (if he does hit the survivor in immediate response, he taunts them but does not move.)

Taking this attack as an insult of his bravery, the shield will relentlessly peruse that particular survivor until he has killed him or hasn’t seen him for 30 seconds (at which point he loses interest, and then goes to find the nearest doorway to sit in.) If another survivor punches him, he changes target. If he is beating down on an incapacitated survivor and is punched by someone else, he forgets the downed survivor and goes after the one who hit him. If you bare this in mind, he is rarely a great threat unless coupled with attacks from other Boss or Special infected, environmental dangers or stupid survivors.

While the Shield bares a physical resemblance to The Tank and has an identical melee attack, the similarities end there. The shield has no hands, so cannot throw rocks (he can still punt cars and other heavy objects though.) Instead, he can periodically perform a roar, which stuns and knocks nearby survivors to the floor as if hit by a thrown rock, and attracts the attention of any nearby common infected, but otherwise does no damage.

While the shield is much tougher than even the tank, he isn’t totally unkillable. Environmental events, such as the gas station explosion, or somehow being knocked off the roof of mercy hospital can kill him. He can also be killed by prolonged minigun fire, and shooting him with conventional weapons does slow him down, so the minigun nigh roots him to the spot, trapping him in his own doom.
